Jean Cocteau & J.-M. Magnan Taureaux Paris, Trinckvel, 1965
An important and highly desirable late illustrated book by Jean Cocteau, produced in the final year of the artist’s life and printed by the celebrated Atelier Mourlot, Paris. This first edition folio is complete with 32 full-page original lithographs by Jean Cocteau, accompanied by the illustrated cover and publisher’s yellow cloth slipcase.
Printed in a limited edition of only 200 numbered copies on Rives vellum, the present example is of exceptional interest, as it was printed specially for Édouard Dermit (1925–1995) — Jean Cocteau’s adopted heir, closest companion, and universal legatee. Édouard Dermit played a central role in Cocteau’s final years and in preserving his artistic legacy after his death, making copies associated with him especially desirable to collectors.
